Small business tax tips

Freelancers and provisional tax

If you earn income that isn't taxed through a payroll, you are likely a provisional taxpayer and must submit IRP6 returns in August and February. Setting aside a portion of every payment for tax avoids a shock later. We help freelancers estimate and submit provisional tax so they stay on the right side of SARS.

Valid tax invoices and why they matter

To claim input VAT, you need valid tax invoices showing the supplier's VAT number, the amount of VAT and the required details. Missing information means the claim can be disallowed. We check that your purchase documentation meets SARS requirements before each VAT submission.

Choosing between a sole proprietor and a company

How you structure your business affects your tax rate, admin and liability. Sole proprietors are taxed at personal rates, while companies pay a flat corporate rate and carry more compliance. We talk clients through the trade-offs so the structure fits their situation.
